What We’re Doing to Change the Narrative.

Our mission at PULSE is to improve the vitality of the south end neighbourhood and wellbeing of its residents. In order to accomplish our mission we committed to taking action in the following areas.

Food Security

Food Purchasing Club

The FPC provides access to healthy seasonal produce at a more affordable price. Pooling money from orders allows us to purchase in bulk directly from wholesalers and we pass these savings onto club members. This service is available to anyone. $15 and $25 orders available. Pay it forward is also available.

Community Garden

PULSE supports the costs and efforts behind a special gardening committee for the Rainbow Community Garden. The garden is maintained by theis special volunteer crew who have prepared over 40 plus beds for the use of residents.

Emergency Pantry

A friendly non judgemental environment where residents in need can receive food items once per month to help create 1-2 days’ worth of meals and connect with programs and services in the community and building.

Income Security

Tax Support

PULSE provides support to low to moderate income residents to complete their taxes year-round and assist residents with completing government forms as well as faxing forms to various agencies.

Resident Engagement

Time Out Cafe

Held at the Saint John Vineyard Church (204 Carmarthen) from 12pm-2pm on select Wednesdays.  This is a welcoming, safe place to have a warm drink and have some conversation. We will bring in anyone that the residents want to talk to.

Rainbow Park

In partnership with the City of Saint John, PULSE serves as a caretaker and advocate for the maintenance and future development of Rainbow Park as well as hosting annual Splash Pad Openings every June.

Community Police

The Community Police office for the south end is located in the PULSE building. Cst Duane Squires is the community police officer who works collaboratively with citizens, schools, businesses, community groups and other organizations to identify and resolve issues that affect the well being and livability of the entire neighbourhood.

Senior Engagement

Through a partnership with the St Joseph’s Community Health Centre and Horizon Health, PULSE also hosts a Registered Nurse, (Kathy London-Anthony)  who is available upon request to assist south end residents with many of their primary care needs.

There are senior programs put on by other organizations that PULSE promotes and champions.

PULSE is always on the lookout to provide food security with the needs of seniors in mind.
